WELCOME TO
THE GERMAN SCHOOL OF DALLAS

About Us

The German School of Dallas offers German language classes every Saturday for children ages three and up, teenagers, and adults.  Our native German teachers develop our students’ ability to read, write, understand and converse in German and, in addition, offer a broad understanding of the history and culture of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Classes meet Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Church, conveniently located in North Dallas off of Arapaho at 5231 Meadowcreek Drive, Dallas, TX 75248.

The German School of Dallas is supported by the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen, ZfA) (https://www.auslandsschulwesen.de/Webs/ZfA/DE/Deutsch-lernen/DSD/Fachberatung_Deutsch-als-Fremdsprache/Nordamerika/Houston/houston_node.html).

In cooperation with the ZfA, we prepare our children and teenagers to take Level Exams A1 and A2 and the German Language Diploma One and Two (Deutsches Sprachdiplom, DSD I and DSD II). In addition, as members of the American Association of Teachers of German, we also administer the AATG exams level 1 to 4. More information about language levels and exams offered at our school is available

For adults, we offer beginner, intermediate and advanced classes.  Each teacher will accommodate the needs of the students on an individual basis and prepare the curriculum accordingly.

Announcements

It is our great pleasure to proudly announce a big success for our school in the school year 2021/22. All our four DSD II candidates (German Language Diploma level 2) received their diploma with outstanding results in all four skills. Furthermore, all of our six DSD I candidates (German Language Diploma level 1) obtained their diplomas with excellent results at all four levels.

The DSD (Deutsches Sprachdiplom) is a prestigious exam, thoroughly testing reading and listening comprehension skills, writing as well as speaking. The exams are graded by native speakers in Germany. As an official language certificate from the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the DSD II is accepted in Germany as proof of language proficiency for university enrollment. The DSD I facilitates acceptance at the German Studienkolleg (a preparatory course for university studies in Germany).

Twelve of our intermediate students participated in the annual AATG National German Exam (American Association of Teachers of German) at levels 2 - 4. The tests consists of reading and listening comprehension. All our students received awards: 6 Goldurkunden, 3 Silberurkunden and 3 Bronzeurkunden. Four of our students qualified for a travel award (a fully payed 3 week stay in Germany). The selection

process for this award is very competitive with interviews and additional tests in each of the four skill areas (reading, listening, writing and speaking). In 2022, over 11,900 students participated in the National German Exam. Mahesh Venkat is one of 48 outstanding German students selected from across the US to receive the award, along with 8 additional.

We are very proud of our students and their accomplishments. Congratulations to students, parents and teachers!!!!

In Memory of Sabine Dunn
1965 – 2023

On May 2, 2023, we lost our treasured colleague Sabine Dunn unexpectedly.

She was an esteemed colleague and friend to many of us at the German School. Her open-mindedness, her friendly and helpful demeanor, and her willingness to go the extra mile for all students and the school community at large were well known and appreciated by all of us.

She was an enthusiastic and creative teacher for both children and adults and taught multiple different levels highly effectively. She loved organizing craft workshops for all occasions, especially for St. Martin’s and Christmas. Among her many skills, she was a certified translator and spoke five languages fluently.

She will be dearly missed by the whole school community!
